Quranic Reminders: Surah Rum

Surah Ar-Rum (30)

  • Abu Bakr won the bet against Ubay, and gained 100 camels, upon which the Messenger SAW asked Abu Bakr to give those camels in charity

    • If we have taken haram income in the past, in any form, like interest or bet money, we should give it up in charity to purify our wealth

    • Haram money is a poison that makes the rest of our wealth toxic, it sucks the barakah from it, and effects the hearts and minds of the people consuming such rizq

    • When it comes to matters of income, we should be clear on where we are gaining from, what we are providing for our family. We cannot afford any gray areas in our rizq

“It is a promise from Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know.” (6)

  • 30:05-6, the miracles and prophecies mentioned in the Quran have occurred again and again, proving its truth. Hence when Allah tells us that He helps whosoever He wills, we should have firm belief that Allah will ease our situations

    • We might have to wait for His promises to come true, but they will surely come true when it is the correct time

“Then, those who had believed and had done righteous deeds-they will be in a garden, extremely delighted.” (15)

  • 30:15, Whenever Allah mentions felicity in the akhirah, He follows up iman with righteous deeds

    • Ramadan is the month where our righteous deeds will be multiplied many fold. It is the month to strive to do good deeds

    • Remembrance of Allah throughout the day will ensure our success in the akhirah. The remembrance of Allah is like a shield we wear against shaytan and nafs

    • Our five salahs are an embodiment of the glorification of Allah

“And it is among His signs that He has created for you wives from among yourselves, so that you may find tranquility in them, and He has created love and kindness between you. Surely in this there are signs for a people who reflect.” (21)

  •  Nikah has been created to bring sukoon in our life, and the love between spouses is only decreed by Allah.

    • Muwaddha refers to unconditional love, in which we forgive the other for the sake of Allah whether they deserve forgiveness or not. We accept the other person with their im/perfections.

  • Taking a small nap in the afternoon is Sunnah; it rejuvenates us for the rest of the day

  • The root of one committing sin is lack of knowledge, when we don’t have sufficient understanding of what is halal or haram, we go on making assumptions and consequently sinning. People prefer staying in their bubble of ignorance, because it is comfortable

“When the people are visited by some affliction, they invoke their Lord with exclusive concentration on Him. Then once He gives them a taste of His mercy, a group of them starts at once ascribing partners to their Lord, so as to become ungrateful for what We gave to them. So enjoy yourselves awhile; then you will soon come to know.” (33-34)

  • We must assess whether the difficulty sent our way is making us impatient, question why me? and drawing further away from the deen, then it is a punishment as a result of our own sins. If a difficulty is bringing us closer to Allah then it is a trial to purify and elevate us

    • If Allah expands our rizq, we should grow more humble and grateful  in our possessions

  • Waiting with patience for Allah’s ease is worship

  • When we go about living in sin, going against the commands of Allah, not only does it affect us, it affects the people and environment around us

“And on the Day when the Hour (Qiyāmah : the Day of Judgement) will take place, the sinners will swear that they did not remain (in the graves) more than one hour. In the similar way they used to be contrary (to truth in their worldly life).” (55)

  • On the Day of Judgment, the entire life we have lived in this world will appear to us not more than one hour
