Provision for the Seekers: A Brief Study of Selected Ahadith (7)

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It is enough for a man to prove himself a liar when he goes on narrating whatever he hears." (Riyad as-Salihin 1547)

  • We should be mindful of relating what we hear, regardless of whether we have consent by the concerned party. We must verify details before sharing them ahead.

  • We should also be mindful of how we use the faculties Allah has blessed us with; our hearing, our sight, our speech, they should be engaged in good deeds, rather than spreading corruption.

    • There are other creations around us, who may not have our best interests in mind, therefore, we should guard our speech, especially when it comes to relating our dreams or fears.

Jabir reported: I heard Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying. Every servant would be raised (in the same very state) in which he dies. (Sahih Muslim 2878a)

  • Death is a sealing state, once a person passes away, nothing can be changed. Therefore it is important that we live a life that will allow us to receive death in a state of iman.

    • It is easy to think that we will be in a state of iman when the time comes for death, but what is important is to change ourselves today in a manner that ensures that, starting with being in a constant state of wudu

  • Our iman is the most valuable possession we have, we need to protect it at all costs. An essential step to do that is to not engage in the forbidden, and/or conflicted.
