A Brief Explanation of The Names of Allah - 3
Al-Hakeem
The One who has perfect wisdom. The One who is All-Wise in His creating and ordering. He has created nothing out of mere frivolity, and He has legislated nothing that is in vain and of no use. He has three areas of ruling that nothing else has a share in, He rules over His servants with respect of His law, His decree and His recompense. So we need to remember that Allah subhanahu’watala has perfect, complete wisdom. Everything He does, allows to take place, and to give permission for, He does it with His wisdom. When something happens in our life that is difficult or overwhelms us, we must realize and remember that it is by the divine wisdom of the Al-Hakeem.
“...Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know.” (2:216)
We need to have tawakul in Allah, that everything that is happening in our life is controlled by Allah. That our health, family, marriage, relationships, wealth, and more, is being controlled by One who has perfect, everlasting wisdom. This firm belief will leave us with a stress-free life.
Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim, Al-Barr, Al-Kareem, Al-Jawwad, Ar-Rauf, Al-Wahhaab
All of these names are close in their meanings, and they mean mercy, generosity, and kindness.
Ar-Rahman is the All-Merciful, the Possessor of an All-Encompassing Mercy.
Ar-Rahim, the Most-Merciful, and the Possessor of a specific mercy for the believers.
Ar-Barr, the One who is All-Generous, He is perfect in His generosity.
Al-Kareem, The Kind.
Al-Jawaad, the Bestower of Goodness.
Al-Rauf, the One who is Kind.
Al-Wahhab, the One who is the Bestower.
These names point to the great expanse of Allah’s mercy, and the gifts that encompass all that is in existence. Had it not been for Allah’s mercy, we would be punished right away for our misdoings, similarly, if we were to enumerate the blessings of Allah upon us, we would not be able to because of their limitlessness. Allah blesses us abundantly, yet when we wake up in the morning when our vision returns to us, when we gain control of our limbs and breathe easily, we go about our days with a roof over our heads without thanking Him like deserves to be thanked.
When we want something from Allah, we should address Him by His names, “O Al-Wahhab, O Allah you are Kareem…” and our du’as will transform.
