A Brief Explanation of The Names of Allah - 1

99names, Allah, Islam

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem

Allah sees everything, and His vision is free of all imperfection. He sees the smallest creatures, those in the depths of the ocean. He sees what's within our hearts. Man has limited vision, we cannot even comprehend what Allah sees.

We cannot make up names for Allah even when we are doing it out of love, because we have been instructed to not speak about that which we do not know. So we have to call the Almighty by the names He has told us, because those names encompass His qualities vastly and correctly. We know of these names through the Quran and Hadith.

Ar-Rabb, the Lord & the Cherisher.

This name has been repeated in many verses of the Quran. He is the One who nurtures and sustains all of His servants by regulating and legislating all of their affairs, favors and blessings. He provides even for those who disobey Him.

Most of all He nurtures His sincere servants by correcting and purifying their hearts, souls and manners. We should be glad that we have been chosen by Him, to be guided to the spiritual life as well. This is why supplication is frequently made with this noble name. Not only does He maintain and regulate our physical side, but He also cares for our spiritual health.

Our spiritual nourishment comes from our acts of worship, our salah, sawm, Quran, du'a, and the greatest one is tawheed of Allah. That we worship Him alone without associating any partners. Our fate has already been written, our date of death is already determined, so for a Muslim, he doesn’t fear trials because he knows that he cannot be harmed unless it is by the decision of Allah subhanahu’watala. A believer allows Qadr to guide him to where his destination is.

Allah

There has never been anything that has come with this name. Allah, it means the One and Only deity worthy of worship who deserves to be worshiped by the whole of creation, the One who deserves to be worshiped with hope and longing, and He should be worshiped with the hope to earn His forgiveness and reward, while fearing His punishment and anger. The name Allah encompasses all of the names of Allah, and the perfection of His attributes. According to the strongest opinion, Allah is the greatest name of Allah which the Prophet ﷺ has said if Allah is called upon by that name, He certainly responds.

Al-Malik, Al-Maalik, Allahthee lahul Mulk

Allah owns this entire creation. He created us from nothing, and then He allowed the creation to create something inside it. The pregnant mother is sustained by Allah, her child which hasn’t been born yet is provided by Allah, and that child from before being born till it’s last breath is sustained and nurtured by the decree of Allah. Allah created everything, He owns it all, so we cannot question Him, we must simply realize that the King of the kings is in control, and we must accept His decree. We must do what He has allowed us to, yet we must be fearless because He is the One who manages all our affairs. We must take precautions, and then trust in Him.

When He tests us, He rewards us for our patience. He doesn’t need to give us anything, because He owns everything, yet He is the Most Compassionate and Perfect King, He is merciful to us.
