A Brief Explanation of The Names of Allah - 4
As-Samee'
Allah subhanahu watala is All-Hearing, He is the One who hears all sounds and voices in all of the different languages being whispered and said out loud, He hears and understands every single one of them. At one moment there may be billions calling out to Him, and He hears every single creation’s pleas. Similarly, As-Samee doesn’t only hear us when we are calling out to Him, He also hears us when we are backbiting, slandering, lying, and when we are mocking somebody. He hears the whispering of our hearts, His hearing is Perfect.
“And Allah judges with the truth, while those ˹idols˺ they invoke besides Him cannot judge at all. Indeed, Allah ˹alone˺ is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing.” (40:20)
We should learn from this that we should purify our tongues from that which is incorrect or false because As-Samee listens. The King of the kings hears our pleas and responds to us, lowly slaves, this realization alone should encourage us to recognize His power, and our duty to be better slaves. We should train our tongues to recite dhikr as often as we can, making it a habit.
Al-Baseer
Allah is All-Seeing, His vision encompasses everything. He sees even what may seem insignificant, He sees the details of everything, and His vision is perfect. He sees us when we are alone, away from the eyes of others. He sees the people plotting and planning in the depths of the night. He sees the angels, and Heavens. His vision has no begin or end, neither no deficiency.
“Neither your relatives nor your children will benefit you on the Day of Resurrection (against Allah). He will judge between you. And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do.” (60:3)
Allah subhanahu watala sees our struggles and efforts. He sees us going through hardships, He sees us doing good deeds, and He sees our secret deeds, He sees and knows. Hence we must remember that He always sees us, so we should strive to worship with the consciousness that He sees us.
