Short Reminders: Surah Fatiha (1)
- Salah is not valid without the recitation of this surah
Abu Huraira reported: The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) said: If anyone observes prayer in which he does not recite Umm al-Qur'an, It is deficient [he said this three times] and not complete…(Sahih Muslim 395a)
- This surah was presented as a gift to the Messenger ﷺ
It was narrated that Ibn Abbas said: "When Jibril was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he heard a sound from above like a door opening. Jibril, peace be upon him, looked up toward the sky and said: 'This is a gate in Heaven that has been opened, but it was never opened before." He said: "An Angel came down from it and came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: 'Receive the glad tidings of two lights that have been given to you and were never given to any prophet before you: The Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah) and the last verses of Surat Al-Baqarah. You will never recite a single letter of them but you will be granted it.' (Sunan an-Nasa'i 912)
- If someone makes du’a after reciting these verses, their du’a will be accepted
“...Allah the Exalted had said: I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks…” (Sahih Muslim 395a)
- Allah reminds us of the Day of Requital, it is the day where we will be recompensed for all of our sacrifices and efforts that went unnoticed in this world
- While reciting this surah we submit and acknowledge that we can only be weak and vulnerable to Him, as He is the Only One who acknowledges our pain, rewards us for our sacrifice, and can bring relief to our difficulties
- The sirat-ul-mustaqeem is crystal clear, there’s no ambiguity in it, nor crookedness. It is the only path that Allah has showered His grace upon. It is the path of the:
Those who obey Allah and the Messenger are with those whom Allah has blessed, namely, the prophets, the Siddiqīn, the Shuhadā’ and the righteous. And excellent are they as companions. (4:69)
- The guidance we ask from Allah is divided in three: general guidance which is inherent in us, particular guidance given to rational beings, and specific guidance that is given to true believers (tawfeeq)
