Provision for the Seekers: A Brief Study of Selected Ahadith (15)

Bismillah Ar Rehman, Ar Raheem

Make haste in giving voluntary charity, for calamities cannot pass by it (Mishkat al-Masabih 1887)

"...follow up a bad deed with a good deed which will wipe it out.." (Hadith 18, 40 Hadith an-Nawawi) When we think of charity, we think of money, however charity can simply be smiling. Our duha prayer, the good we do for others, the time we dedicate in good, they are all charity. Charity is a shield against Hellfire, and a way to defer difficulty in dunya. The scholars encourage us to give in charity when we are distressed.

Guard against the Hellfire, if even with half a date, and whoever does not possess that then with a good word (Sahih al-Bukhari 6540)

When we find ourselves hesitant towards giving something in charity, it might be an indication of our love for the dunya. Do not overthink when it comes to charity, break attachments and give according to your ability. Love for dunya is the root of all sin: anger, arrogance, greed, all come from it, and the remedy is to give from what we love.
