Provision for the Seekers: A Brief Study of Selected Ahadith (2)

It is narrated on the authority of Tamim ad-Dari that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The Religion is sincerity." We said, "To whom?" He said "To Allah, to His Book, To His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their masses." [Sahih Muslim 55a]

  • Being sincere towards Allah is fulfilling our obligations, sincerely obeying His commands, and striving to do good.

  • Sincerity towards Allah’s Book is to have a connection with it, for it to be read, and not just stored. It is to recite it with proper tajweed.

  • Sincerity towards the Messenger is to follow his sunnah in every aspect of our life.

  • Sincerity towards pious rulers is to obey their laws.

  • Sincerity towards people is to give them correct advice and protect their honor.

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Jannah. A man persists in speaking the truth till he is enrolled with Allah as a truthful. Falsehood leads to vice and vice leads to the Fire (Hell), and a person persists on telling lies until he is enrolled as a liar.” [Riyad as-Salihin 54]

  • We know what is good and bad, and doing good brings the pleasure of Allah.

  • Truth (haqq) is in itself is a sign of righteousness, of being an upright individual, who is able to attain the raza of Allah.

  • There are many levels/branches of imaan, and so many ways to express the belief in our heart. Truthfulness is one of those expressions, and it takes to Jannah.

    • Being truthful is extremely important in the deen of islam.

    • Jannah is the highest gift Allah gives when He is pleased with a believer

  • Usually people lie because of fear of consequences and/or to increase them in other people’s opinion—to appear better or superior. In the deen of Islam the only sight we need to be elevated in is in the sight of Allah.

  • The whole goal in this life is to get Jannah, doing anything against that is useless. Everything we think, do, strive for, should be with Jannah as a goal.

  • Despite how far we have gone or what we have done, Allah is Al-Haleem, there is always a back to His Mercy.

  • Lying is never an option, because one lie asks for one more to cover it up.

    • Don’t think about major or minor, think about Who is watching you.
